(Guthrie Center, IA) — Its a new season on the mat for AC/GC starting this Thursday and the Chargers have good numbers this year. They lose two seniors who were state medalists a year ago — Tegan Slaybaugh finished 3rd and 120 pounds and Payton Jacobs was 6th at heavyweight. Overall, AC/GC sent 6 to state and 4 are back including Sophomore Ryder Cline who was 22-12 last year and says he is motivated to improve this year and move up to the medal stand
Also returning is Senior Mike Fuller, Senior Gavin Sloss and Junior Carter Richter neither of whom won a match at the Well last year and have higher hopes for this season. Senior Jackson Pfrang just missed going to state after a 30-20 record losing in a wrestle back at districts — he wants to get more takedowns since they are now worth 3 points this year instead of 2
Junior Angel Martinez was not 100 percent healthy last year — he had a partial tear in his bicep but he is motivated to do better this season
A young and upcoming freshman is Caden Larsen who should crack the Charger line up in the lighter weights and he says it will be an adjustment going from junior high to high school right away
AC/GC will open their season this Thursday hosting a quad with Nodaway Valley, East Union and West Central Valley
