(Atlantic, IA) — Peytn Harter got into some early foul trouble but when she came back in in the 2nd quarter, she did not commit another foul and her 28 points would lead Atlantic to a 73-44 win over Denison-Schleswig on Tuesday night.
The Trojans won despite not hitting a three pointer all night long but they made up for it by going to the free throw line. Atlantic kept driving to the basket and the Monarchs kept trying to swat the ball out of their hands and it would usually end up with a Trojan at the charity stripe — Atlantic converted on 23-29 free throws on the night.
Atlantic led 15-13 at the end of the first quarter — the game was tied at 17 early in the 2nd and with Harter back on the floor, the Trojans went on a 12-0 run. Harter hit on the Trojans first 8 points of the 2nd quarter — Zoey Kirchhoff had 6 point in the quarter and Atlantic would lead 38-24 at the half and never looked back.
Harter led the way with 28 points, Kirchhoff had 14, Makenna Schroeder had 14, Lila Wiederstein and Katrina Williams each had 6, Brynn Lamp had 4 and Jayden Franken with 1 point.
Mayah Slater who was the leading returning scorer for Denison Schleswig was held to 2 points in the first half although she did finish with 12. Lola Mendlik hit 4 three pointers — two of them banked — for 12 points. Ann Wessel added 9, Marley Boettger 6, Lauryn Turin 4 and Kamden Bruhn 1 point.
Denison Schleswig is now 0-1, Atlantic evens their record at 1-1. They are off until Thursday, December 5 when they visit St. Albert.
