(Atlantic) Christmas in Atlantic officially gets underway tonight at the Depot in downtown Atlantic. The festivities begin at 5:00 p.m., with Hy Vee serving free hot dogs at the Rock Island Depot. Bailey Smith, Executive Director at the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce, said Atlantic is Travel Iowa’s number one destination for celebrating the Christmas season, and Grand Lighting is a big reason for this. Santa will arrive to help turn on over 200,000 lights strung throughout the trees on Chestnut Street and City Park. Following the Grand Lighting, Santa will head to his cabin in City Park to greet children from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The Grand Lighting will be live video streamed on westerniowatoday.com and YouTube.
