(Massena, IA) — On Monday night in a special joint school board meeting between CAM and Nodaway Valley, nothing was decided about the future of each school district.
The meeting was short — only about 10 minutes and no school board member — either from CAM or Nodaway Valley — seemed willing to discuss the recent decision by Nodaway Valley to terminate the contract of the current Superintendent Paul Croghan. Todd McKee of the CAM school board did most of the speaking and he says the CAM school board received official notice by registered mail on Saturday that Nodaway Valley wanted to end the agreement of a shared superintendent
McKee would go on to say that there are two options before the school boards — option one was to continue the working agreement between CAM and Nodaway Valley and hire a new superintendent like they have done in the past. Or. The 2nd option is pretty much split up
Currently, CAM and Nodaway Valley share five positions in the school district — superintendent, school business officer, account payables, maintenance position, and payroll. The only position that is in question is superintendent. McKee says it is way too early to make any final decisions in this process.
At one point McKee opened it up to anyone to talk about the situation and there was an awkward silence with nobody really expressing their views. Katherine Jensen of Nodaway Valley did kind of sum things up when she says it will come down to the dollars and cents
McKee emphasized there is no firm timetable to make a decision on the two school districts and the whole process could take 3-4 months.
