(Audubon, IA) — Head Coach Maryssa Soder is excited about the upcoming season for Audubon girls wrestling. The Wheelers team will consist of 9 girls this year — most from Audubon and a few from IKM Manning. No Exira EHK girls will compete on varsity although the Spartans along with IKM Manning, and Coon Rapids Bayard will send girls wrestlers to Audubon at the junior high school level. For the varsity kids, Soder says all 9 girls are working hard in advance of their opener this Saturday
There is only one senior on this year’s team — Emily Foren was 5-11 a year ago in just her 2nd year participating in the sport — Soder says she has been more aggressive in practice. There are number of juniors this year including Elena Harbour from IKM Manning who was 13-17 last year
Mulford was 9-19 last year so she will be looking to improve. There is one sophomore on the team who is new to the sport Layla Vesper. Soder is hoping to see some development from her 4 freshmen who will be in the varsity line up
Soder says there are no expectations this year — wins will come with improvement on the mat
Audubon will open their girls wrestling season this Saturday at the Western Iowa Tournament hosted by West Monona.
