(Audubon) The City of Audubon and the Audubon County Board of Supervisors held a discussion this morning on consolidation of law enforcement.
Representatives from the City of Audubon noted that when the City of Harlan consolidated their police department with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office that is when the City of Audubon kind of started discussing doing the same thing and then it got put on the back burner.
The City will need to come up with how many hours they want for law enforcement protection dedicated to the city and the Supervisors and the Sheriff will need to come up with a figure of what that hourly rate would be.
Audubon County Sheriff Todd Johnson was asked how he felt about consolidating the Departments.
Sheriff Johnson did note that if law enforcement is unified, there would need to be a minimum of two officers working throughout the county at all times.
After considerable discussion, it was agreed to form a committee of representatives from both the County and the City so they can hash out what is fair for everyone involved.

Once all committee appointments are made, the committee could hold their first meeting as early as next week. It was also noted that at some point they want to make sure that the public is allowed to give their input on possibly consolidating the law enforcement services.
