(Des Moines) The Des Moines International Airport is getting an additional three-point-six-million dollars in federal funding to expand its plan to create a new terminal, allowing for more gates than originally planned. Executive Director of the Des Moines International Airport, Kevin Foley, tells WHO13 that they plan to use the funds to add nine additional gates instead of the original plan of six, which will bring more flights in and out of Des Moines. The airport is also expanding its parking garage to 11 hundred additional parking spaces, which will be ready by March. The first construction phase on the new terminal is already complete and is expected to be prepared for travelers by 2027.
