(Des Moines) District 23 State Representative Ray “Bubba” Sorensen earns a third term in the Iowa legislature. The Greenfield Republican defeated Democratic challenger Karen Varley 12,822 to 4,935.
Sorensen II won the 2018 election to fill the vacancy for retiring Republican Clel Baudler, who had held the seat for over twenty years.
Ray Sorensen is also known as the artist of “The Freedom Rock.” In 2013, Sorensen began painting “The Freedom Rocks,” one in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. His goal is to finish the tour this year. He grew up patriotic and always had a soft spot for the nation’s veterans. His inspiration came from the Movie “Saving Private Ryan.”
District 23 includes Adair, Madison, and portions of Clarke, Dallas, and Union Counties.
