(Audubon, IA) — The Wheelers are preparing for a huge 8 Man Quarterfinal on Thursday night, heading over 2 hours north to battle Remsen St. Mary’s, coverage on KSOM with a 7 pm kickoff.
Audubon has had to deal with injuries all season long but Senior Adam Obrecht has been a steady presence at cornerback. He has an interception in the last 5 games in a row including a pick 6 against Collins Maxwell plus also has been double figures in tackles in three of those games which is unusual for a corner. Obrecht says he’s just doing his job but scoring the TD was memorable
The Wheelers have an experience crew in the secondary — Obrecht has 7 Interceptions, Jack Stanerson had 3 and then you throw in Aaron Olsen who has 8 picks. They are all seniors and Obrecht says they all work well together
On the injury front, the defense has been effected with missing guys — Obrecht only plays on defense — but he says it has been fun to see the emergence of the back ups who have come in and picked up the slack
Obrecht is not planning on playing college sports — he is going to Iowa St. to major in aerospace engineering but he says that doesn’t mean he will be an astronaut — there are plenty of other careers out of that major. On Thursday night, Obrecht is looking forward to playing Remsen St. Mary’s and he would love the opportunity to go to the Dome
