(Red Oak) The Highway 34 road construction project, which extends from the Nishnabotna River to the old Highway 34 east of Red Oak, began in late summer. The main focus of this project is to pave both directions of the highway. Additionally, the Highway 34 and Highway 48 interchange will be improved and equipped with traffic signals. Scott Suhr, District Planner for the Iowa Department of Transportation, stated that the goal has been to keep two lanes open during construction. Crews are concentrating on the second half of the project, which is expected to be completed by early December.
Suhr expects that removal work will take place this week, followed by grading, laying down foundation material, and beginning the paving process. He advises the public to check 511ia.org for updates on road conditions and construction projects, particularly during their morning commutes.
