(Lewis) Trapping season starts today and runs through February 28th.
John Lorenzen, a Fisheries Biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, appears on the weekly DNR Show and says the Beaver trapping season extends beyond February 28th to April 15th.
Lorenzen touched on a recent change allowing youth 15 years of age and younger to trap without a license if accompanied by a licensed adult.
The Iowa DNR is also beginning a gray fox population study to learn more about their movement, habitat preference, and survivorship. Lorenzen says gray foxes are a woodland timber species, and trappers who catch one alive receive a $400 reward from the Iowa Wildlife Federation as long as they call in.
Lorenzen says if you catch one, please call the state Furbearer Biologist Vince Evelsizer at 641-231-1522.
