(Woodbine) Woodbine heads into second-round post-season play following a 50-14 victory over Collins-Maxwell in round one. The Tigers (8-1) finished runner-up to Remsen-StMary’s in 8-Player District #1. Head Coach Dustin Crooks says the team came out focused and ready to play in all aspects of the game. The offensive starters scored on every one of their possessions and played stingy defense.
The Tigers’ defense allowed the opposition an average of 12 points through nine games, including two shutouts and three games in the single digits. Coach Crooks says they have many players who like to play defense.
Tigers quarterback Brody Pryor is a key cog on the offensive unit. The Junior is a dual threat to the opposing defenses. Pryor is 94/156 passing for 1,342 yards, 27 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He is the second leading ball carrier with 60 carries for 542 yards, averaging nine yards per carry.
Woodbine Head Coach Dustin Crooks praises Coach Birks and his staff for fielding a well-coached squad. Crooks says the biggest challenge is slowing down the Wheelers’ rushing attack.
Aaron Olsen leads the rushing attack with 1007 yards for an 8.2 yards per carry average and 19 touchdowns. Carson Wessel, 96, carries 733 yards, and Mason Kasperbauer, 55, holds 447 yards. Most impressive is the 20 interceptions posted by Audubon this season. Olsen and Adam Obrecht lead with six picks each; Jack Stanerson and Austin Christensen have three, and Kasperbauer and Hartl have one interception each.
The Tigers have eight fumble recoveries and 14 interceptions, led by Brody Pryor with four, Joe Freund with three, and Landon Blum with one INT.
The game starts at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on 95.7 F.M. The pre-game show starts at 6:30.
