(Remsen, IA) — Its another long trip for the CAM football but the Cougars will hope lightning can strike twice as they head north to battle #3 Remsen St. Mary’s, coverage on KSOM with video on westerniowatoday.com.
Last week, Keegan Croghan kicked a 24 yard field goal to end a 67-64 shootout over GTRA. Makade Paulsen ran for a career high 346 yards and 5 TD and he threw for 159 yards and 4 more scores. Head Coach Barry Bower is proud of how his offense came together
The challenge gets tougher tonight with the Hawks who had been to the Dome 4 years in a row until last season. Remsen St. Mary’s is a run first team with 1.967 yards on the ground but they can throw it too with over a thousand yards in the air. Bower says they are just a fundamentally good football team
CAM has similar offensive numbers to Remsen St. Mary’s — the total offense comes out pretty even — 3,204 total yards for the Cougars, 3,127 total yards for the Hawks. Bower says the offenses are almost mirrors of one another
One key for CAM is everybody is available to play tonight, something that has not happened much this year as Bower has had to juggle his starting line up because too many guys in the trainer’s room
Remsen St. Mary’s, meanwhile, beat West Bend Mallard 42-8 last week. At the start of the season, the Hawks were actually rotating two quarterbacks but Head Coach Tim Osterman had circumstances dictate he go down to one guy
On defense, Keaton Harpeneau does have 6 interceptions which is tied for 3rd in 8 man but the tackle chart is pretty even — Braxton Kneip (Neep) leads with 46 and 4 TFL; Brady Koenck (Ko–enk) has 44.5 and 7.5 TFLs — Osterman says they have a lot of experience at each position
Osterman says his defense will be challenged because of CAM’s balance on offense and the Cougars will line up in many different formations in an effort to confuse the defense
There are a lot of keys to this game but Osterman says one of his man focuses is to stop the CAM offense on first and second down
7-2 CAM visits #3 Remsen St. Mary’s 9-0. Game time is at 7 pm, Scouting Report at 5, In the Huddle 5:15, Pre Game 6:30 on KSOM
