(Atlantic) Grading work on the Camblin Hills Development project in Atlantic could start early next week. At a special meeting on Wednesday, the Atlantic City Council authorized Vision Atlantic Inc. to proceed with the infrastructure portion of the project despite the fact the two parties are still negotiating a development agreement to formalize the responsibilities and commitments of both parties.
Dave Sturm of Snyder and Associates, the project engineers, says construction will start in the next several days.
Sturm says the project includes grading the entire site and all of the infrastructure, including the water and sewer system, storm system drainage, increasing the detention basins on the site, and streets.
The development project includes a 144-unit mixed-unit housing development, a 300-capacity child development center, and an expansion of the current YMCA facility on 40-plus acres of farmland on the south edge of Atlantic.
With substantial monetary support from the Charles E. Lakin Foundation and local donors, $18.6 million has been raised in the past 11 months, over 61% of a $30 million goal. Vision Atlantic’s Project Committee is actively working to secure the remaining $11.8 million needed to meet the fundraising goal.
The City Council intends to finalize and execute the development agreement with Vision Atlantic by the end of this year.
