(Des Moines) According to the National Weather Service, scattered widespread showers and storms are forecast to move through the area today and tonight. Some of these storms may be severe. The most significant risk for strong to severe storms is for southern Iowa during the afternoon and evening hours. The main threats include strong winds, hail, and a few tornadoes, but heavy rains are also possible locally. They could result in urban ponding or flooding, especially if leaves begin to collect and block surface drainage.
