(Guthrie Center, IA) — In Tuesday’s Guthrie County Board of Supervisors meeting, the supervisors once again are looking at making a stand against the Summit Carbon Solutions Pipeline. The recent court case in South Dakota sided with landowners on the issue of eminent domain to acquire and inspect land for the pipeline. Iowa currently has gone the other direction with the ruling of the state’s Utilities Board. Supervisor Mike Dickson would like to look into an ordinance to stand against the pipeline and wants to seek outside help from a Des Moines law firm to fight it
Supervisor JD Kuster then pushed back and said that ordinances by other counties have been ineffective
After further debate, Supervisor Maggie Armstrong believes that consulting an expert is still a way to go with the ultimate goal of protecting landowners
Ultimately, the supervisors voted unanimously to get advice from Tim Whipple at Ahlers & Cooney of Des Moines to assist with any language in a possible ordinance and he will be invited to a future meeting. The supervisors will not meet next Tuesday because of the election.
