(Madison County, Iowa) A pedestrian who was struck on Interstate 80 in Madison County died at the scene.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. on westbound Interstate 80 near the 98-mile marker. Authorities identified the victim as 45-year-old Mandy Wendland of Omaha, Nebraska.
According to the report, Wendland and another person were walking westbound along Interstate 80. Authorities say Wendland stepped onto the travel portion of the road and was struck by a westbound 2020 Ford Transit driven by 25-year-old Mercedes Gambrall of Grimes, Iowa. Wendland ended up in the north ditch, and the vehicle came to rest on the north shoulder in the westbound lanes.
