Class 1A Cross Country State Qualifying Meet Preview
Local area schools will be heading to AC/GC and Central Decatur High Schools to try and qualify for the state cross country meet tonight. In Guthrie Center, AC/GC sent both teams to Ft. Dodge a year ago and will have the home course advantage to try that this year.
On the boys side, AC/GC Gavin Sloss was 9th in the West Central Conference meet while Preston Kent finished13th. Head Coach Rick Blake says those two will lead the charge for the Chargers tonight
On the girls side, Ava Campbell is poised to go to state after a third place finish at the conference meet — she finished 11th at state a year ago. Blake is also impressed with Cadance Petersen who had a season best time at conference and finished 17th
Other local teams heading to AC/GC include Audubon, CAM, Exira EHK, Nodaway Valley, and Tri Center. Blake gives the teams to watch
Meanwhile at Central Decatur, AHSTW, Griswold, Riverside, Southwest Valley and Underwood will be among the schools running. The Riverside boys are ranked #7 in the state and they will go up against Woodbine ranked #3. Tri Center boys are ranked #11. On the girls side, the top teams are Treynor which is ranked 5th and Logan Magnolia is 11th.
For Class 1A, the top two teams and top 10 runners automatically advance to the state tournament. All races start at 4pm
