(Guthrie Center, IA) — Marty Arganbright is trying to get elected for the 5th time as the Guthrie County Sheriff, only this time, for the first time, he has a contested race.
For the last 16 years, Arganbright has had a familiar face as the Sheriff but the Democrat is being tested this year by Republican Matt Harmann. Arganbright says everybody that he has met has been supportive and he has had over 27 years overall in law enforcement. He says the major issue facing the county is the rising use of drugs
When the new jail was built, the County would also use it to house out of county inmates and that was a source of income — other counties pay on a per inmate basis. Most of the inmates have come from the Des Moines area. Arganbright says there are some costs with overtime for his officers

The campaign for Sheriff in Guthrie County has not been without controversy — Arganbright’s opponent has brought a lawsuit against him claiming he and the county attorney politically retaliated against him. Arganbright defends his actions and says he is in the right
