(Harlan) On Tuesday, Harlan City Administrator Gene Gettys updated the City Council on the Sewer Lining Project. Gettys says the project kicked off on Tuesday morning and is anticipated to be finished by the end of the year.
According to an article on the City of Harlan’s Facebook Page, the City hired the Municipal Pipe Tool Company to carry outlining and point repairs on approximately four miles of sanitary sewer mains this fall.
The project areas are identified based on previous cleaning and inspections of the sanitary sewer pipes. These repairs are essential to ensure the sewer mains are in good working condition. The repairs will involve using cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) for sections of pipe that are broken or cracked, as well as point repairs in 4 specific areas.
The sewer mains may be located in the street, front yards, and back yards within easements, which provide the City with access to carry out the necessary work. This work will not affect the City’s main sanitary sewer use.
Residents are kindly asked to keep pets indoors or on a leash away from manholes while crews work. If manholes are in the middle of the street, drivers may need to take an alternate route during repairs, and any traffic interruption will be temporary.
The temporary sanitary sewer transports sewage from sinks, bathrooms, kitchens, floor drains, and other plumbing to the city wastewater treatment plant. It is separate from storm sewers, which are designed to transport stormwater.
