Tuesday, October 8
(Anita, IA) — The Rolling Valley Conference has been highly competitive this year and Tuesday night was no different as Exira EHK beat the Cougars in an exciting four setter 25-27, 25-10, 25-15, 25-22
CAM would actually have to rally to win set one. Taryn Petersen had some big points, Brooklyn Flathers had an ace and the Spartans led 23-19. Maddie Richter got to serve for CAM and the Cougars came back to tie it at 24 as Krista James had 2 big kills, Courtney Follman with a block. After a couple of side outs, James put the first set away with a kill to win it 27-25 for CAM.
The Spartans erased the deficit by scoring 8 straight points to start set two on Taryn Petersen’s serve. With a 19-9 lead, Exira EHK closed out the set on a 6-1 run to make it 1-1.
Clearly the CAM coaching staff was not happy, the starters got benched in the third set and the back-ups actually faired well, for a time anyway. Riley Miller got 7 points on serve to make it 9-4 Exira EHK. The Cougars came back to tie it at 9. Up 13-11, Flathers got four points on serve to build a 17-11 lead and Taryn Petersen served out the set with 4 straight.
The starters for CAM returned in the fourth set and it was back and forth most of the way — it was tied 16-16 when Exira EHK got a point on serve but Maddie Richter answered with 2 points on serve to give the Cougars a 19-18 lead. Once again it was Taryn Petersen on serve for the Spartans with 3 points including 2 aces to make it 22-19 and Exira EHK held on for the win
For Exira EHK, Jaelynn Petersen had 20 kills, 6 digs and 2 aces. Taryn Petersen had 8 kills, 18 digs and 4 aces. Riley Miller 6 kills 12 assists. Brooklyn Flathers 15 assists. Mayne Jorgensen 11 digs. Unofficially for CAM, Krista James had 7 kills, Maddie Richter 6 kills and 1 ace. Ruthie Rich 4 kills. Jaci Eden 2 aces.
CAM falls to 5-14, Exira EHK goes to 11-3
