(Iowa City, IA) — The Iowa Hawkeyes are losing two offensive players on their roster. RB Leshon Williams has announced his intentions to leave Iowa and enter the transfer portal and WR Kaleb Brown says he will redshirt and sit out the rest of the season although he has not announced any intention to transfer.
Williams has just 21 yards on 11 carries this season and has not played in the Hawkeyes last two games against Minnesota and Ohio St. Williams did have a big 2023 rushing for 821 yards and finished 6th in the Big Ten in rushing. Kaleb Johnson has gotten the bulk of the carries for Iowa and currently ranks 2nd in the nation in rushing with 771 yards and 10 TD. Sophomore Jzium Patterson and Freshman Kamari Moulton has passed Williams on the depth chart — Patterson has 144 rushing yards and 1 TD and Moulton has 130 yards.
Brown transferred to Iowa from Ohio St. and once was a top 100 recruit but has made little impact with Iowa. So far this season, the Junior has just 1 reception for 18 yards. Brown was the third leading receiver for the Hawkeyes in 2023 with 22 receptions for 215 yards and one touchdown. Iowa has seen the emergence of true freshman Reece Vander Zee plus Northwestern transfer Jacob Gill have seen the bulk of the receptions in a passing attack that ranks among the worst in NCAA FBS.
