(Scranton, Iowa) An Iowa Republican and Trump supporter says he was tricked into running for office as a Republican spoiler by a group called Patriots Run Project. He says they found him on Trump groups on Facebook.
Joe Wiederien of Scranton, Iowa, northwest of Des Moines. He says the group led him to believe he was helping Trump win Iowa, instead the group got him on the ballot to pull votes away from Republican candidate Zach Nunn.
Wiederin says he has removed his name from the ballot now. In an FEC complaint, Patriots Run Project is accused of putting spoiler candidates on the November ballot in several other states, including Nebraska, Minnesota, Montana, and Virginia.
