(Des Moines) The Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is reporting a significant rise in tips related to online child exploitation. They have reported over four thousand tips that were already received in 2024. Special Agent Nathaniel McLaren highlighted the challenges of tracking predators who adapt to new social media trends. The task force is also seeing an alarming uptick in sextortion cases, where children are coerced into sharing explicit content. Parents are urged to communicate openly with their children about these issues to provide necessary support.
The Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force is a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. Led by the Iowa Department of Public Safety, the task force investigates and prosecutes those who use the Internet to exploit children. Its purpose is to prevent, interdict, and investigate ICAC offenses in Iowa as part of a national network of task forces.
