(Des Moines, IA) — Two Des Moines police officers are hospitalized after a shooting this morning on the East side.
It started around 1:40 when police tried to stop a car near the 2500 block of Easton boulevard. The driver refused to stop, which led to a chase. The chased ended when the driver went off the road and crashed. When police attempted to take the suspect into custody, he reportedly opened fire on officers with a handgun. Police then returned fire, killing the suspect.
The two officers who were hit are expected to survive.
