(Oakland, IA) — It was a late start to the season for the Riverside cross country season but the Bulldogs made the most of it with a solid race at Council Bluffs on Saturday. The Bulldog Boys came away with a team victory while the Girls had some outstanding performances.
For the boys, Riverside had three runners in the top five — Junior Dawson Henderson finished in 2nd place, just 19 seconds off the winner Kaiden Hamilton of CBTJ. Junior Brody Henderson was 4th and Sophomore Owen Fenner finished in 5th place. They were only about a second from each other and finished 30 second ahead of 6th place. All three runners had a different style of race according Riverside Cross Country Head Coach Alex Oliver
The Bulldogs actually have two boys that are dual sporting this fall between cross country and football. Fenner and Sophomore Cruz Jaquez who finished 19th on Saturday are making it work and getting support from the coaches and administration according to Oliver
The girls team is a little more younger than the boys — Freshman Iviana Schechinger had the best finish for the Bulldogs in 25th place
Next up for Riverside cross country, they compete tonight in the Clarinda Tournament with Atlantic, Southwest Valley and 16 total teams.
