(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa Bicycle Coalition is renewing its push for a hands-free driving law. They cite strong public support and recent survey results show widespread concern about distracted driving. Despite over 85 percent of Iowans backing the legislation and ongoing efforts since 2019, the bill has repeatedly failed in the state legislature. A survey conducted with the Iowa State Patrol and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau revealed that while over 90 percent of respondents acknowledge the dangers of distracted driving, half admit to engaging in it.
