(Audubon, IA) — What a beginning for Audubon as the Wheelers go on the road at a tough place to play and beat arch rival CAM 38-20. It was a coming out party for Junior Carson Wessel – 29 carries, 198 yards and 1 TD; plus 6-10 passing for 143 yards, 2 TD and 1 INT. The offense went on Wessel’s back as Senior Aaron Olsen had to deal with cramps off and on in the game. Head Coach Sean Birks said the running game went so well that they haven’t had to show the pass as much, yet
One of Wessel’s primary targets was TE Brody Weber who caught 4 balls for 73 yards and a TD plus had 3 2 point conversions. Weber had battle some injuries at the start of practice and he struggled with some blocks early against CAM but Birks says he got better as the game went on
Tonight, Audubon begins district play hosting 10th ranked Colo Nesco. The Royals have won both of their games by a combined score of 108-0 against Murray and Twin Cedars. Facing the 7th ranked Wheelers by far will be their toughest opponent but Colo Nesco gave Audubon a tough game last year before succumbing 28-24 and they have a talented ball carrier in Breckin Clatt. Birks says Colo Nesco is not to be taken lightly
Colo Nesco 2-0 visits Audubon 1-0.
