(Ames, IA) — It was not perfect for Iowa St. last week in a season opening 21-3 victory against North Dakota but Head Coach Matt Campbell says there were a lot of things to build on. The Cyclones did not come out of the game unscathed — Harlan Grad Junior Will McLaughlin got hurt against the Fighting Hawks and definitely will not play this week against Iowa
The Cyclones have other injuries in the linebacking corps — Junior Caleb Bacon had a leg injury against UND and had to have surgery on Sunday, Campbell says he will be out for a while but not for the season
Rocco Becht was a very efficient 20-26 passing for 267 yards and 2 TD against North Dakota; now he’s going up the Hawkeyes defense which is much more stout. Campbell says Becht has seen this style of defense multiple times and the biggest priority is taking care of the ball
Overall, Campbell is impressed with the style of defense that Iowa plays and how they can adjust to what an offense is doing as the game progresses
Campbell says this game is more than just Iowa St. at Iowa, its the Cyclones first road test
Iowa St. visits Iowa on Saturday, kickoff is at 2:30, Cyclones Pre Game at 12:30 on 96.5 FM KSOM
