(Guthrie Center, IA) — ACGC decided to open up the offense in week one — they actually threw it five times and completed all five passes in 40-0 blowout against Ogden.
The Chargers like to ground and pound and they did that against the Bulldogs, amassing 402 rushing yards. In his first start, Junior Joe Crawford had 11 carries for 119 yards. Senior Fullback Mike Fuller had 12 carries for 75 yards and Senior QB Jathan South ran 11 times for 137 yards and 3 TD. Plus South went to the air 5 times and completed all of them for 129 yards and 3 more scores. Head Coach Cody Matthewson said sometimes you gotta take what the defense gives you
On defense, Junior Xander Harwood has slowly been emerging as a player and last Friday was a breakout game with 8.5 tackles and 1.5 TFL. Matthewson says Harwood is part of a Junior laden defense and had come back from a serious injury
The Chargers are ranked #2 in Class A and they face a very good Earlham team that won in week one 41-12 over Central Decatur. This is an early district showdown between two teams that could be fighting for the district title but Matthewson would like to keep all the extra curriculars out of it.
Two 1-0 teams battle it out as Earlham visits ACGC.
