(Lewis) The Civilian Conservation Corps established the state forest nursery in the 1930s and has been continuously producing three to five million seedlings on-site at any given time.
This week, the State Nursery Seedling orders start with 23 species of native hardwoods, eight evergreen species, and 15 smaller trees and shrubs. The prices range from $.80 to $1.20 per seedling. John Lorenzen from the DNR Office in Lewis says the seedlings are sold in three age classifications and range in size from 10 to 30 inches, depending on the species.
Lorenzen says if you are interested in buying seedlings for your property, you can find the nursery page on the DNR website or call 800-865-2477.
