(Atlantic) The rural landscape will look slightly different when most Iowa School Districts start classes tomorrow morning. Atlantic Community Schools Transportation Director Steve Andersen is entering his second year on the job—his message to motorists is to exercise patience.
Andersen says that when the school bus stop signs come out, it is not a recommendation; motorists must stop both ways.
Steve Andersen says all buses have cameras. The drivers report drive-bys, and the camera footage is sent to law enforcement. He asks motorists to stop for the safety of everyone involved.
The Atlantic Community School District has eight regular bus routes and others to Harlan and Council Bluffs. Andersen says he has great drivers but can always use substitute drivers, particularly for extracurricular activities.
