(Ames, IA) — Will there be a chant of Rocco, Rocco, Rocco in Jack Trice Stadium this Fall as the Cyclones look to build their next Brock Purdy — Rocco Brecht, the starting quarterback for the Iowa St. football team.
Brecht is entering his sophomore season is now on the Manning Award watch list, an award for the nation’s top quarterback and he is on the Davey O’Brien watch list, an award also given to the best QB in college football. The Wesley Chapel, Fla. native set ISU freshman records for completions (231), passing yards (3,120) and passing touchdowns (23).
Last year at this time, nobody knew anything about him and he was just fighting for the starting job. This year, he is the starter but he says that has not changed his mentality.
Brecht is working with a new Quarterbacks Coach — Jake Waters, a former Iowa St. QB — takes over the position this year moving from Quality Control and he has brought more technology to the Cyclones — new tablets on the sideline to see replays instantly and he is the one talking in Brecht’s helmet
Iowa St. opens their season on Saturday August 31 hosting North Dakota, all the Cyclones action can be heard all season long on KSOM.
