(Ames, IA) — Iowa St.’s defense is one of the most underrated in the Big 12, let alone the country and one the Cyclones leaders is poised to have a big season.
Junior Caleb Bacon has a high upside after finishing 2nd on the team in tackles with 60 despite being a back-up. The former walk-on from Lake Mills, IA earned a scholarship with ISU after playing all 13 games last year. He also had 6.5 tackles for a loss, 3.0 sacks, eight quarterback hurries, two pass breakups and one forced fumble. Bacon says he has more confidence coming into this year’s camp
Bacon is projected to start on side at LB, Junior Will McLaughlin from Harlan, IA is a projected starter on the other side with Sophomore Jack Sadowsky from Batavia, IL in the middle. Another player to watch is Freshman Cael Brezina from Downers Grove, IL who could fight for playing time in his first year. Iowa St. has a new Linebackers Coach this year Colby Kratch a former graduate assistant and Bacon says he has brought the linebackers an attitude
