(Anita, IA) — The season has not started yet, practice hasn’t even begun yet, and CAM already must overcome a devasting injury.
The Cougars All State Quarterback Chase Spieker led CAM to a 10-1 season a year ago; that included a district title and very nearly an appearance in the Dome after losing 26-16 to Algona Bishop Garrigan in the quarterfinals. However, during the baseball season Spieker went down with a devastating knee injury and that means he will not be able to play the entire 2024 campaign. Spieker threw for over 1600 yards and 26 touchdowns plus ran for 927 yards and 24 more scores. Entering camp this year, Head Coach Barry Bower will turn in a different direction at the QB position
Paulsen will have some help on offense — even though CAM loses key players like Brody Paulsen and Austin Williams to graduation — Bower says there’s plenty of good horses in the stable
CAM will have to fight in a tough 8 Man district again this year with Exira-EHK and Fremont Mills plus an improved Griswold team. Bower says he gets excited during this time of year
