Iowa Union Calls for Reinstating Negotiation Rights For Public Workers

(Undated) Local union members and labor leaders in Iowa call on lawmakers to restore collective bargaining rights for public workers. The rights were stripped in 2017 by GOP lawmakers. Changes made to Iowa law in 2017 have undermined public employees’ ability to negotiate for fair working conditions. The altered collective bargaining laws restricted unions’ ability to negotiate over key issues such as health insurance, evaluation procedures, and overtime pay. Labor advocates are urging Governor Kim Reynolds and Republican lawmakers to restore dignity and rights for public employees in Iowa. The call for action comes as public workers face challenges due to weakened collective bargaining laws, impacting their ability to negotiate for better working conditions and benefits.
