Supervisors Chair Steve Baier wants everyone to understand that this is not a new tax.
No action was taken today, a resolution will be placed on the next Supervisors meeting agenda for approval.
On June 9, 2021, Iowa Senate File 615 was signed into law by Governor Reynolds giving Iowa counties the ability to declare EMS an essential service, thereby making it possible for counties to propose additional funding sources for EMS to the county’s voters at an election. The Supervisors recently approved a resolution declaring EMS as an essential service.
In other news, the Supervisors received a presentation from CADCO Director Jennifer McEntaffer on contributing Valley Business Park interest toward a revolving loan fund.
McEntaffer explained that the revolving loan fund started with $180,000 and it has been revolved enough to where they have made $700,000 worth of loans. She said they have loaned out anywhere from $3,500 to $50,000; $50,000 is their cap. The Supervisors agreed they would support using the interest toward a revolving loan fund, but took no action at today’s meeting. An action item will be placed on their next meeting agenda with a figure to be determined.
The Supervisors received a presentation and request from Atlantic Police Chief Devin Hogue for ARPA funds to purchase mobile and portable radios for a School Resource Officer in the amount of $11,430. No action was taken as the Supervisors would like to review what they have available in the ARPA funds.
The Supervisors held a conversation with the Elected Officials on whether or not to establish a Compensation Board. No decision was made and the Supervisors tabled action.
The Supervisors approved the appointment of Heath Larsen as Cass Township Clerk, replacing Max Potter whose resignation was accepted May 7th. And, the board approved Brandon Laverty as Cass Township Trustee to replace Heath Larsen.
And, the Supervisors gave Dennis Daniels permission to set up his Boots on the Ground food truck in the Annex parking lot on Walnut Street on occasion. Daniels explained that he gives food to veterans for free and any money he does make goes to the Boots on the Ground organization.
