(Atlantic) On Wednesday night, the City Council approved an order for temporary road closure and no parking restrictions on selected streets during the requested dates and times for RAGBRAI 2024.
Atlantic Police Chief Devin Hogue has requested the enclosed road closure and parking restrictions be in effect for RAGBRAI. This is a matter of public safety, as our town may swell to 6,792 to 25,0000 over a short period of time.
The road closures include:
*Chestnut Street from 6th Street to 4th Street, beginning at 6:00 PM on Sunday, July 21st. This section of Chestnut will remain closed until approximately 2:00 AM on Tuesday, July 23rd, after all vendors have cleaned up and left. This allows some vendors to come the evening before and set up. This will also help with traffic flow as all support vehicles are coming into town early on the 22nd. If we have many of these already in town and placed, it will free up some traffic control workload.
There will be No parking on Chestnut Street from the Courthouse to 2nd Street starting at 6:00 AM on July 22nd. In addition to those time frames, no (non-event) parking will be allowed in the downtown area, 6th street-2nd Street on Chestnut, and the side streets from Poplar to Walnut beginning at 6:00 PM on Sunday, July 21st. Due to the PD being short-staffed and the amount of traffic control we will need to provide for this event, we will not have available to locate vehicle owners and ask them to move the morning of the 22nd.
Additionally, parking is prohibited on Plum Street between 14th and 7th from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 23rd.
