(Avoca, IA) The AHSTW Lady Vikes are having a bounce-back season under new head coach Katie Pace and finished the regular season with a 16-8 record. A much better season than last when the Lady Vikes finished the season with a sub .500 record of 14-18. With playoff softball starting tonight for the Lady Vikes, they will take on Logan-Magnolia, who tied AHSTW for fourth place in the Western Iowa Conference.
Going into her first postseason run as head coach, Pace emphasized being mentally prepared.
The Lady Vikes come into this contest red-hot and on an eight-game win streak including a win over Logan-Magnolia. During their win streak, AHSTW also defeated West Monona, rated No. 9 in 2A and 2A preseason No. 4 Missouri Valley. With one-and-done games ahead, the Lady Vikes are catching fire at just the right time.
Pace believes the girls’ trust in one another is the reason for their success.
AHSTW has been fueled by a couple of eighth-graders this season in the batter’s box and in the pitcher’s circle. As a team, the Lady Vikes have started only two upperclassmen all season, and will only lose one senior.
Coming into this season, Pace didn’t know what to expect. However, this season may be huge for the Lady Vikes softball program going forward.
AHSTW will take on Logan-Magnolia tonight in Avoca starting at 7:00 p.m.
