(Ames, IA) – Iowa State wrestler, David Carr, has been named to the Big XII’s 2024 Bob Bowlsby Award. This was announced by Big XII Commissioner Brett Yormark during the kick-off football media days.
This Big XII award is the most prestigious individual accolade that is presented to a male and female student-athlete who represent the best of the conference for their leadership and excellence. Carr won his second National Title this season and was named the Big XII Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Iowa State Male Athlete of the Year, Amateur Wrestling News’ Hammer Award winner, National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American, and a First Team Academic All-Big 12 selection.
Just this season, Carr earned a 27-2 season record with a 40:3 takedown ratio while receiving the Hammer Award that goes to the athlete who wins the most weight-class NCAA Championships after beating the #1, #2, and #5 seeds in the National Tournament. The National Champion led ISU to its best season in more than a decade with a Big XII title, the first since 2009.
Carr has been a more than active member of his community by providing free clinics, camps, and practices at area schools. The top athlete was also an active member of the Iowa State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
The only other Iowa State athlete to earn the Bob Bowlsby Award was Ashley Joens who was the first female recipient in 2023.
