(Monona County, IA) — A second levee has given way this afternoon on the Little Sioux River in Northwest Iowa.
People near the towns of Smithland and Rodney are being evacuated. Historic flooding in Sioux City, Iowa and eight counties in Northwest Iowa is now causing flooding downriver. I-29 is closed at North Sioux City, South Dakota. I-29 and I-680 will be closed beginning tonight at Council Bluffs, Iowa near Omaha. Dozens of roads remain closed in Northwest Iowa because of flooding and flood damage.
More rain is possible in the region tonight, which would lead to higher water levels on already flooded local rivers. A flood warning is posted for the Missouri River from Sioux City Iowa through Omaha, and south to Kansas City, Missouri.
