(Greenfield) The resilient community of Greenfield continues to forge ahead in recovery efforts following the recent tornado. Here are the latest updates:
Community Meeting Recap On Sunday, June 23, a community meeting was held at Nodaway Valley High School Auditorium to discuss ongoing recovery efforts. Local officials and community leaders provided updates and addressed residents’ questions. A meeting video is available on the Adair & Guthrie County EMA Facebook page. The next meeting is scheduled for July 7 at 6:30 p.m.
DNR Forestry Service Today, the DNR Forestry Service is in Greenfield assessing damaged trees in public areas such as city parks and properties. They focus on identifying trees posing safety risks and assisting in debris calculations for future cleanup efforts.
Heat Advisory: The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for today. Residents are urged to take precautions against high temperatures, including taking frequent breaks and staying hydrated, especially outdoors.
Debris Removal Emergency crews are no longer responsible for storm debris removal from public areas. Residents must coordinate with volunteer organizations or approved contractors for debris and housing demolition. Volunteer crews remain active in Adair County to support these efforts.
Housing Demolition Residents needing assistance with housing demolition should follow these steps:
- Contact your insurance company.
- For demolition assistance, call the volunteer center at 641-631-6555 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. or use a city-approved licensed contractor.
- If your home’s foundation is being removed, contact Greenfield Municipal Utilities at 844-580-0810, Option 2, for support with sewer inspections.
FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) The DRC is operational at Nodaway Valley Elementary School and offers personalized assistance to individuals affected by the tornado. Its hours are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Residents with questions can also contact FEMA at 800-621-3362. Those previously denied benefits are encouraged to revisit the DRC with all relevant documentation, as eligibility criteria may still apply.
City-Wide Curfew A city-wide curfew remains in effect for Greenfield to ensure safety and facilitate recovery efforts.
