(Council Bluffs) On Tuesday, the Iowa Department of Transportation celebrated the near completion of the Council Bluffs Interstate System improvement plan. Contractors, designers, stakeholders, and elected officials attended a ceremonial ribbon cutting to mark a significant milestone in this transformative project and celebrate the collaborative efforts of all who made it possible.
Scott Suhr, the District Planner for the Iowa Department of Transportation, says this 20-plus-year project costs $1.4 billion and is the largest single road construction project in the department’s history.
The massive project reconstructed I-80, I-29, and I-480 in the Council Bluffs metropolitan area.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, this comprehensive interstate redesign has modernized the highway system and improved the mobility and safety of approximately 14 miles of interstate.
