(Atlantic) On Thursday, Kathy Somers, the Cass County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, supervised the post-election audit of the Cass County Primary Election. The audit confirmed that the number of votes tallied during the audit matched the initial count from election night with 100% accuracy.
In Iowa, post-election audits are compulsory across all counties. After the election day, the Secretary of State’s office randomly selects one precinct for auditing. In this instance, the Atlantic 4 precinct was chosen. A bipartisan post-election audit board, comprising representatives from both the Republican and Democratic parties, was tasked with manually counting the votes for the U.S. House of Representatives race.
Every stage of the audit process yielded matching results.
“I want to thank everyone involved in the election-day process, including precinct election officials, other support volunteers, and the auditor’s office staff members who worked diligently to ensure Cass County residents were allowed to vote securely, and in accordance with state laws,” Somers stated.
