(Guthrie Center, IA) – Former AC/GC Charger, Kate Crawford, had an impressive junior track and field season for the UNI Panthers. At the MVC Outdoor Championships, Crawford placed fifth in the 10,000-meter run at 35:47.35 and earned ninth in the 5,000-meter at 17:25.04. Her accolades also push further with a first-place finish in the Jim Duncan Invitational with a personal best in the 5,000-meter at 17:05.21. She also took second place in the 3,000-meter run at the Arkansas Spring Invitational at 10:13.22. To say the least, Crawford felt strong this year but wants to see even more improvements next year.
While she had tremendous success on the track this season, she also had just as much success in the classroom. Crawford was able to capture a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team. To be eligible for this astonishing award, you must earn a 3.5 GPA and place in the top eight of the MVC Indoor/Outdoor Championships individually. Crawford says that one of the biggest accomplishments has been in the classroom.
Being a track athlete and a student is a balance that Crawford has delicately nailed down. You not only need to balance out those two things but also maintain a social life with your friends and family. The junior has been able to find that balance while excelling on both the track and in the classroom.
Crawford was one of the top runners in the state of Iowa in Class 2A as a freshman, earning a State Championship title for AC/GC. She also was a two-time silver medalist in the 3,000-meter in track and field action as a junior and sophomore. The Guthrie Center native is the perfect example of working hard to reach your goals and she wants other local athletes to follow in that same direction.
Make sure to look out for Kate this summer as she will be putting down the miles to prepare for her senior season.
