(Des Moines) Bridgestone is laying off employees at its Des Moines plant. The layoffs are due to demand constraints in the agricultural tire sector. The company aims to minimize the impact on its employees and communicate directly with them. The local United Steelworkers leadership has been notified of the layoffs, but the exact number of affected employees and the timing of the layoff are unknown.
Meanwhile, John Deere in Moline, Illinois, announced that it is laying off more than 120 employees at its seeding and cylinder operations on June 28. It’s the latest round of cuts this year where 60 people are losing their jobs in Urbandale, 160 in Ankeny, and 350 in Waterloo.
