(Villisca) Alex Burton defeated Jill Cooper in the Republican Primary for Montgomery County Board of Supervisor District #5. Burton defeated Cooper 92-15 for the seat left open by longtime supervisor Donna Robinson, who chose not to seek re-election.
The Villisca resident raised his family on the acreage north of Hacklebarney County Park, where he grew up.
Burton graduated from Villisca High School in 2006 and is currently President of the Villisca Community Betterment Association. He says he built and fostered relationships with community members, statewide organizations, and volunteers for Villisca EMS. He also serves as a Deacon for Faith Community Church in Red Oak.
Burton previously served as a 911 dispatcher and volunteer firefighter. He says he gained a unique perspective on the infrastructure and leadership needed in a county to ensure all residents have confidence in our emergency services. Additionally, he served as director for a nonprofit centered around mental illness. “Because mental health is often stigmatized and misunderstood, as a county supervisor, I hope to contribute my experience to the SWIA Mental Health and Disability Services Region,” said Burton.
“As a dedicated member of the board, I will bring experience, integrity, and open lines of communication to the position while prioritizing good stewardship practices of county resources,” said Burton. “I look forward to serving Montgomery County residents by being the next to fill the seat for the 5th District on the Board of Supervisors. I believe we all are responsible for contributing to and enriching our local communities here in Montgomery County. I’m excited to work with the other board members to do just that.”
Alex Burton’s wife, Lori (McAlpin) Burton, graduated from Villisca in 2007.
