(Des Moines) The Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board fined Democratic candidate Melissa Vine and former campaign manager Lou McDonald for making illegal contributions to a state political action committee in other people’s names.
The investigation was launched after the Iowa Unity Coalition filed a complaint. Their complaint raised concerns about potential illegal contributions leading up to the endorsement vote for the third congressional district race.
The board found that McDonald registered individuals and attempted to participate in the endorsement vote using his credit card, violating state laws. Aware of McDonald’s actions, Vine fired him about the PAC contributions.
