(Des Moines) Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop over portions of western Iowa early this evening, with additional storms moving in from the west during the early morning hours tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters say the main threat is large hail, damaging winds, and locally heavy rains; however, a tornado cannot be ruled out.
There is an enhanced risk of severe weather on Tuesday. Additional storms are expected to develop along a cold front during the afternoon, with tornadoes, damaging winds, locally heavy rains, and large hail possible.
Additional thunderstorms may return to the region on Friday and through the weekend. The severe weather potential for these storms will be determined in the coming days.
