(Creston, IA) – What a performance it was for the Southwestern Spartans at the Dance Team Union College Classic National Championship after earning two third-place and one fourth-place finish on the national stage.
The girls were able to finish third in the nation in both the Open Jazz and Open Hip Hop and fourth in the Open Pom. These girls went into the championships with a strategic approach that resulted in some of the highest scores and the team’s top placements in the program’s history. Head Coach Paige Russo was beyond ecstatic with the performance of her girls, “From day one of the season, this team has faced battles and struggles but yet that never slowed them down.”
The Spartans also continue to add more and more athletes to the team for the next season, including CAM’s Natalie Behnken, East Union’s Brylea Woollums, Winterset’s Cloe Guion, and Mount Ayr’s Liliana Aguilar. They will be joining the Spartan team that has had one of the best seasons in program history. These girls will likely competing on the same level next season with the amount of talent that they are bringing in from the region. Coach Russo stated, “We once again are blessed and grateful to represent Southwestern Community College each season and look forward to competing next year at nationals again.”
